Our Day at the North Shore School’s 5K
On May 5, Byline was honored to be a sponsor of the annual 5K Trevian Trot, a Fun Run/Walk whose proceeds go to support the Jan Borja Scholarship Fund, the NorthShore University Neonatal Unit, Misericordia and the Shea Fitzgerald Wrestling Scholarship.
The Trot, which began as a part of New Trier Township High School’s Wellness Week in 2001, featured a 5K RUNdezvous to raise awareness about general health and wellness. In the summer of 2003, three New Trier graduates—Shea Fitzgerald, Sam Farmer and Julie Sorkin—died in a Chicago porch collapse, and the RUNdezvous was renamed the Run to Remember in their memory. In 2012, Jan Borja, former New Trier principal and an avid supporter of the run, passed away after a long illness, and the run was also dedicated to her memory. The name was changed to the Trevian Trot in 2013.
The race, which is hosted by New Trier’s Kinetic Wellness department, draws more than 150 students and their families each year, who run in remembrance of Fitzgerald, Farmer, Sorkin and Borja, and in celebration of the community that keeps their memories alive.
For more than 100 years, Byline has been honored to serve our local residents, in all the neighborhoods where we live, work and play. And when we think about how lucky we are to be a part of events that celebrate the memories of lost, loved community members, we’re truly proud that we can add something positive and give back to the people who inspire us. It’s like we always say: we love this town.
