Our Weekend at the Do Division Street Fest
Byline kicked off our summer festival schedule as a proud sponsor of Do Division Street Fest in Chicago’s indie-cool West Town neighborhood. The Fest took place from Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2 on Division Street between Damen and Leavitt and was a true celebration of the area’s independent spirit, coupled with friendly inclusivity.
The Street Fest itself featured two live music stages whose line-ups were chosen and curated by two of Chicago’s most interesting alternative and indie-rock live-music venues: The Empty Bottle and Subterranean, as well as Do Fashion runway shows and DJs to keep the crowds of more than 65,000 people energized.
Not to be outdone by their uber-hip grown-up chaperones, kids had their very own area—the Do Division Family Fun Fest—to rock out, burn off some energy on the Mega Slide, or chill at the Petting Zoo. And although there was no admission fee for either portion of the Fest, 100 percent of the suggested $10 donation for the Family Fun Fest was earmarked for the Friends of Pritzker School and LaSalle II PTO, two local public elementary schools. Eighteen percent of the main Fest net gate proceeds were also donated to the two schools.
Byline was proud to be a part of this packed and energetic weekend, and booth-manning Byliners were forced to tear themselves away from the shows going on all around, and focus as streams of Chicagoans passed through, collecting promo items and information as they went.
One of the things that makes Chicago so special is the very different vibe in each of its distinct neighborhoods. Do Division Street Fest (and the Family Fun Fest) perfectly captured the edgy, independent spirit of the place it calls home—and we were honored to be a part of the weekend’s experience for all. We love this town.
