Good, Old-Fashioned Fun on the 4 (and 3) of July
On July 3 and 4, Byline was proud to support the City of Palos Heights as a Red, White and Blue Sponsor of the annual Independence Day Celebrations. Over 6,000 attendees attended the festivities this year, which kicked off in the afternoon of July 3 at Memorial Park.
The traditional celebrations included pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, a mini train, face painting and balloon twisters, DJ, food vendors and a beer tent. All this was followed by the spectacular fireworks display, which is always the centerpiece of the Celebrations—unless you chose to attend the festivities at Lake Katherine Nature Center, which offered fireworks at dusk: perfect for early birds or partiers for whom one pyrotechnic display is simply never enough.
Not to be outdone by the fun that had already begun, on the 4 itself the Annual Parade featured veterans, locals, and kids of all ages as it marched proudly down Harlem Avenue in a patriotic display that even the most pre-reveled reveler couldn’t fail to appreciate.
And although Palos Heights’ celebrations are always a fundamentally traditional Independence Day experience, they’re not afraid to fold in new (and welcome) inclusive aspects where needed. One such addition is the Parade Sensory Friendly Block, where for the second year, attendees with sensory issues could retreat to enjoy the Parade in a safe environment, as it passed by without music, sirens and lights. The block was sponsored and run by the Palos Heights Recreation Department and Southwest Special Recreation Association (SWSRA).
Byline was honored to support such a diverse, inclusive, yet fun-filled and traditional Celebration. We’ve been a proud part of Chicagoland for over 100 years, and we take our responsibility to our neighborhoods very seriously. It’s an honor to be a trusted bank where we live and work, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the people who keep each of our diverse communities strong and vibrant. We’re just where we want to be.
