Our Time at the Community Bike Ride
On September 23, Byline was pleased to lend our support to the community of Libertyville by sponsoring the village’s 4th annual Spirit of Independence Community Bike Ride. The ride was presented by the Libertyville Bicycle Commission and supported by other local business and civic leaders (like us!). Its aim is to encourage residents to use the miles of trails in the village. In fellowship with this goal, once again local bike shop George Garner Cyclery was on hand to perform bike safety checks and demonstrate safe helmet-wearing practices.
Riders had the choice of completing either a two- or a five-mile loop during the ride, which began and ended at Riverside Park, just south of the Rockland Road Bridge. From there, riders joined the leafy Des Plaines River Trail, proceeded under St. Mary’s Road, and then looped around Old School Forest Preserve.
Libertyville is home to numerous well-kept, green and bike-friendly trail routes, including the aforementioned Des Plaines River Trail, the 7.7 mile-long North Shore Bike Path and the smaller and less-trafficked “little trail,” which connects the north end of Libertyville to Butler Lake.
Eventually, Libertyville plans to connect all of its perimeter trails to the heart of the bustling village, so that residents can power themselves as much as they’d like. But for now, riders were content simply to spend a Saturday morning out in the fresh air, with other members of their community, together.
At Byline, we agree with this sentiment. We take our support of the Village of Libertyville, the Libertyville Bicycle Commission and other local organizations very seriously—we know that their tireless efforts make our town a great place to be, and we second their mission.
Byline has been a proud and integral part of Chicagoland for more than 100 years, and we take our responsibility to our neighborhoods very seriously. It’s an honor to be a trusted bank where we live and work, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back our own time and talents to the people around us who keep their neighborhoods strong and vibrant. We’re just where we want to be.
