Our Night Moves
On September 24, Byline was honored to join with local arts, business, and civic leaders to support See Chicago Dance, a quickly growing arts non-profit dedicated to building audiences while developing a more cohesive, diverse and inclusive Chicago dance community. This year, Byline served as a sponsor at the organization’s gala, which was held in the equally dynamic and quickly growing West Loop area of the city.
See Chicago Dance was originally born as a simple market-research opportunity, to study how it might be possible to strengthen Chicago’s dance community and build larger-scale audience support for the art. Funded by the Chicago Community Trust, the initiative grew and grew, spreading its wings like a swan on a lake (pun intended, thank you!).
Now, See Chicago Dance provides programming and support to dance companies of all sizes, dance styles, and points of view. Additionally, it specially aims to “provide equitable access to dance experiences for Chicago audiences that is inclusive and welcoming to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.”
This year’s Gala, held at City Winery, both celebrated the evolution of See Chicago Dance as a whole (as well as its welcome presence in and huge importance to Chicago’s dance community and patrons); it also honored two of our town’s brightest dance luminaries: Amina Dickerson and Lou Conte.
It is a measure of the drive, devotion and dedication that See Chicago Dance has already demonstrated, and continues to show, to the city’s rapidly growing dance-appreciation scene, that it is already able to honor two such respected members of its community. Byline respects the work being done to raise Chicago’s profile in the dance world, and we were proud to be a part of the celebrations.
Byline has been a proud and integral part of Chicagoland for over 100 years, and we take our responsibility to our neighborhoods very seriously. It’s an honor to be a trusted bank where we live and work, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back our own time and talents to the people around us who keep their neighborhoods strong and vibrant. We’re just where we want to be.
