We Love This Town
On December 12, Byline was proud to join with other civic, community and business leaders as a sponsor of the 5th Annual TEDxOakParkWomen. The event, which is a yearly lecture series, built off the national TEDWomen 2019 theme, BOLD + BRILLIANT and aimed to spotlight dazzling ideas from Chicagoland’s innovators and risk takers.
TEDxOakParkWomen is a hyper-local take on a national movement, and focuses specifically on important topics and ideas worth spreading within the Oak Park community. Always thought-provoking, this year’s lineup promised to deliver a celebration of smarts, savvy and diverse dynamism—and it definitely made good.
The Tedx event series combines national TED Talks video and live speakers to bring a local lens to national issues—in the local iterations, the “x” equals an independently organized TED event, from speaker series to salons and everything in between.
This year’s speakers really were heavy hitters in every arena—and the discussions that came out of the lectures certainly were bold and brilliant! The lineup included Mariann Aalda, one of the first African-American daytime soap opera heroines and long-time working actor; Emmy-nominated television writer, actor and producer Michael G. Fry; Dr. Nadine Naber, award winning author, public speaker, and activist; trauma social worker and activist for at-risk youth Rosanelly Garcia; nonprofit leader, writer, and social justice advocate Shailushi Baxi Ritchie; IT industry veteran Sinead Aylward; neuroscience researcher and clinician Stefanie Faye Frank; singer-songwriter Victoria Storm; and founder & CEO of Chicago-based marketing-services company Magnolia Insights Tania Haigh-Emcee.
