A Snapshot of Our Time at Pumpkins in the Woods
On October 18, Byline was honored to continue our support of the Winnetka Park District by joining with other local business leaders as a sponsor of Pumpkins in the Woods, in Hubbard Woods Park.
This much-loved local event in one of Chicago’s leafy North Shore suburbs was the perfect, family-friendly way to get in the Halloween spirit. Our town is at its most appealing as our gorgeous lakeside fall foliage reaches its peak, and there’s nothing like crunching through fallen leaves to reach a magical kingdom of pumpkins—seemingly grown overnight!
Fun Fact: Byline also supported this fall’s earlier Bike Winnetka event and several of the Park District’s Wednesdays in the Woods Evening Concerts which took place in Winnetka’s Hubbard Woods Park this past summer, including The Jack’s on August 21st, where we represented at the Bike Winnetka info and registration area!
On this Friday afternoon families gathered to kick off the weekend as well as the holiday, and it wasn’t hard to get into the swing of things. The Park District had outdone itself, with pumpkin decorating, carnival games, bounce houses, a DJ, costume contest, and more on offer for children of all ages. (Come on, decorating pumpkins is fun for everyone…admit it!). Chef Phil kept the frights at bay and sugar levels up with his choices of cookies, snacks and drinks, and once the little goblins rehydrated from a busy school day, they were off!
The most competitive game in town that afternoon had to be the Pumpkins in the Woods costume contest. Judges awarded prizes in several categories: most original, scariest, and funniest. Deciding on the winners was no mean feat, and though not everyone could take home a prize, all comers had a first-class time at this annual event. See you next year, haunters!
